The first College Hill School opened in 1888. It was a four room building, housing grades 1-8 with two teachers. It had a large front hall with a bell tower on the top. The bell was rung to signal recess time. The basement housed a small bin that held coal, which was used in cold weather.
A second building was erected in 1914. This three story, red brick building had 14 steps which led to the entrance and two large pillars that flanked the front doors. This structure and it's school activities were a vital part of the community. When this building was torn down in 1975, the city lost an important landmark.
During the period of construction of a new building, College Hill students attended class in some of the surrounding houses. Both students and teachers seemed to enjoy the uniqueness of having class in old College Hill homes. The students and staff moved into the current facility in the fall of 1977.
