ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL- students should not arrive before 8:50 a.m. Students may enter through the First Street doors or the front doors.  Please don’t drop off students at the parking lot entrance for safety reasons.

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL-Students will be dismissed by 4:10 daily.  I will walk the children out the First Street door each day and wait with them until their ride arrives.  After a span of 10 minutes youngsters will wait in the office for their ride.  If for any reason after school plans vary, please notify me in writing.

PATROLS- A practice session will be held with the patrols designed specifically to meet Kdg. Needs.  When your child feels comfortable and you’re waiting across the street, they may cross with the help of the patrols.

CHECKING CHILDREN OUT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY- please check your child out through the school office.

TARDY- if you’re running late, your child will need to stop in the office for a tardy slip.  This is standard for all students, even if they’re only a few minutes late.

REPORTING ABSENCES- please call the school office, 973-9600, to report absences.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL- we cannot administer medication at school without a doctor’s statement.

BIRTHDAYS- Feel welcome to bring treats to help celebrate your child’s birthday at school.  Please notify me beforehand and keep treats fairly simple. As a general rule we will have birthday treats 30 min. before going home.

DISCIPLINE- Our one classroom rule is to treat others the way you want to be treated.  Your child will bring home a paper penny to spend in our class store if they have a good day.  Save these awards!  When they collect 5, 10, or 25, they can purchase a trinket from the store in our room. Our class store will be open on Fridays. This will promote appropriate, responsible behavior as well as money concepts.

·        If you are willing to help supply our “trinket store” please let me know.

BEHAVIOR BOARD-Each child has a pocket with a set of 4 cards.

GREEN- Indicates a great day. Everyone starts fresh each day with a green card.

**If a child does something inappropriate they will first get a “heads up” warning and be redirected.

YELLOW- 1st official warning- Pull your card to yellow and at the end of the day go home without a penny reward.

RED-Warning 2- 5 minutes in the thinking chair.

ORANGE- Warning 3 – 10 minutes of recess or activity time missed. We will also decide if we need to call the parents or send a note home. If the situation deems necessary the student will be sent to visit with Mrs. Stybr our principal.

To help reinforce appropriate behavior I will also be handing out a blue card to fabulous workers!

Homework- In kindergarten, your child will be learning to identify all their letters and sounds. There are also 51 sight words for kindergartners to learn. I will be sending home sightword rings in the near future as well as updates on letter mastery.  I will also be sending home an ABC dictionary where I need kindergartners to “I spy” the sightwords being introduced each week. Use old magazines, newspapers, cereal boxes, etc. to find the word. Once they spy the word have them cut it out and glue it in the dictionary on the correct page. These are the areas of support I ask from each of you.  We learn a lot in Kindergarten and I can’t stress enough about how important it is to have your help in these areas. Please read to your kindergartner everyday. We will also be working on the Pizza Hut Book It! Program, a system that helps encourage reading together at home. I will send more information home on this at a later time.

Visitation- Your child will be bringing home some worksheets in the course of the year but not as many as you might expect. Research shows that children learn best by doing. One of the best ways you can be updated with what your child is doing is by visiting and helping in the room.

Resting Time- Since we are full day, we will be having a relaxation period/nap time after lunch and recess. It will be 20- 25 minutes each day and we will only do this until Christmas break or until I feel we do not need it anymore.

Tuesday Packets- Every Tuesday your student will bring home their Tuesday Packet. Inside will be all the letters from the school and our class. You will need to sign and date the packet and send back to school by the next Monday. If your student brings back his/her packet by Monday, your student will earn a penny for the penny store.
